In this revised essay (2019), I seek to distinguish prophecy from prediction. The two concepts have become conflated with the disastrous consequence that we no longer know where to look for inspiration towards new cultural forms. Prediction locks us ever more firmly in the logic of our technological civilisation (literalism, clockwork time, outer space). Prophecy is only possible when a very different spacetime, prevails, one that privileges language as polysemic, time as soul movement and space as psychological spatiality. Is this spacetime accessible to us today in our age of literalism? Are modern prophecies even possible within the logic of our technological civilisation?
