Non-Phenomenal Absence

NON-PHENOMENAL ABSENCE:
Experiencing & Speaking Its Reality

I have noticed over the years a number of dominant disciplines (existential philosophy, depth psychology, cosmology, quantum physics, mathematics, phenomenology) are turning towards the task of understanding and describing negative reality or absence—to use two available names. This interest, I could even say enthusiasm, springs from a growing alarm that our very way of being today, or our style of consciousness, seems to be under the sway of a unstoppable and wilful imposition on, well, just about everything now, including ourselves…Most of the professions listed above study the problem of absence as an abstraction, but clarifying distinctions, gaining knowledge, linguistic precision, alone cannot change the way we perceive other beings, anymore than studying the history of enchantment and magic can alone restore to us such “lost worlds”. We need in addition to such conceptual work, an initiatory process which inducts at least a few individuals into a possible new way of being…
