I wrote this short story some years ago and am making it freely available in pdf. I hope to publish this, together with another short story, in the near future. Both stories are excerpted from my books, Ur-image and Oblivion of Being (unfortunate titles, in retrospect).
This story concerns four young people, Edward, Gary, Allen, and the mysterious Po’. They are high school students, and firm friends. Like all other young people they have been told that their future is up to them, their choices, their aspirations, their goals. They learned that they are the authors of their lives, and that nothing happens unless they make it happen. They had no idea that possible futures may spontaneously approach them, disrupt the Present and alter the course of their lives in the most unexpected ways. One day, on the way home from school, they encounter the ur-image and enter the vortex…
