When Everything Stops

it’s so simple

when everything stops
any “thing” may open up
and reveal its inner beauty
and love pour through
that opening

swelling my heart to bursting

anita’s grandson
drops my bowl
shattering on the floor
“uh oh!” we chime
he looks deep into my eyes
as i do his
a smile breaks out
on both our faces
and love fills my heart
and maybe his

each piece of that broken bowl
now becomes a new “thing”
to explore
its contours, its broken-ness
now completed
in love

all this possible, waiting
when everything stops

it’s so simple now
